A simple guide to building Mental Toughness
The Full Story
I started my career in sport psychology in 2009 at Cal State University, Fullerton under the tutelage of world renown applied sport psych, Ken Ravizza. The very first class I took from him he told us that information is worthless unless we use it to help people. He challenged us to go out and find some people to help. That challenge led to building beautiful relationships with some amazing people and 3 years working with, learning from, training and training with many of the top surfers in Southern California. I will ever be grateful for the challenge and mentorship from Ken Ravizza, Traci Statler and many wonderful professors at CSUF. As well as the opportunity and trust afforded by Kevyn Dean and the whole DSC crew.

Next thing I know, I've got the opportunity to help Special Operations Soldiers, Army Rangers and many more high performing soldiers in the US Army. During this time I learned one of the biggest lessons of my career. Behind every soldier, athlete, Olympian, etc there is a person, with a heart and mind. With struggles and challenges, successes and failures. I saw people do things I didn't think were possible. And I learned that you and I are capable of far more than we can imagine.

Fast forward to 2020. As an experienced resilience & mental toughness expert, I would face the most difficult challenge of my life. On February 29th after a beautiful day at the beach our 8 year old son fell unconscious and would never regain consciousness. On March 4th, 2020 our beautiful son passed beyond this world. Through this devastation I learned how vital it is to apply everything I've ever taught. It taught me that pain and sorrow are okay and it awakened me to the reality that life is short and that if you are going to make an impact, you've got to get to work helping as many people as possible.

Life is precious and you and I have the ability to do amazing things. Let's get to work!
